Z900RS Custom: A Brand New Z1 Released?
Doremi Collection's Z900RS
Modern bikes are fast and easy to ride, of course. That's why when you get a new bike, you are more concerned with 'coolness' than performance, said Mr. Takeshi, the representative of Doremi Collection. Doremi Collection has customized the Z900RS in the Z style which creates proportions that will be accepted by riders who admire the Z1 and Z2. In this issue of JCC, we bring you this heritage Z racer.
It does not look out of place alongside the Z1 thanks to the high degree of perfection with the same taste.
Engine
To give the compact liquid-cooled engine more power, the Z1-type point covers are deliberately made to protrude, and an under-tube-style engine guard is provided. Engine guards disguised as under-tubes were intentionally designed to stand out with the aim of creating an appearance of volume. And a specially machined aluminium base is layered with a Z2-type points cover to increase thickness.
Intake & Exhaust
The exhaust is an essential component of a bike’s appearance. This is especially true of the Z1, whose quad-style exhaust was iconic. At the time, collector pipes had not yet appeared; even the AMA racers ran four individual pipes. Doremi went so far as to rebuild the exhaust, taking apart the stock, removing its internals, and fitting them into a new quad-style exhaust. They chose to work with steel to help reproduce the smooth exhaust note that bikes had in those days.
Chassis
The 18-inch wheels were chosen not only for their balanced appearance, but also for the calm ride quality that is similar to that of the Z1. A chassis posture with a slightly raised rear looks better, but not wanting to sacrifice reach to the ground a seat height adjuster was also added. The seat can also be lowered so that women can ride on it. To balance the overall silhouette, the swingarm was also trimmed 2 cm shorter.
Bodyworks
The tuck rolls create the atmosphere of the period. The rider's seating area is thinly shaped as if it were part of the tail cowl to improve footing. Z2 type tail cowl and side covers for Zephyr and steel front fenders equipped, and conservative looking KR-type discs and chrome fenders.
Although the Z2 type taillights, blinkers and mirrors are used, the interior of the lights are fitted with LEDs.
The headlights are also in the classic Z1 case, but they too have been converted to LED units.
